About Skinners Farm
Four Generations of Family Farming on the Isle of Wight
The Flux Family - Farming at Skinners Farm, Isle of Wight
Skinners Farm is more than just a working farm — it is the home of the Flux family, who have cared for the land and livestock here for generations.
Based near Cowes on the Isle of Wight, the Flux family have been farming cattle in Northwood, near Cowes, and the surrounding area for 4 generations. Today, the family continues to build on that farming heritage, combining traditional knowledge with modern farming practices to care for the land, livestock and businesses that make up Skinners Farm.
A Family Farm with a Long History

For four generations, the Flux family have been responsible for caring for cattle.
That long connection to the farm has created an understanding of the land that can only come from years of experience. Farming is not simply a job for the Flux family — it is a way of life, with each generation contributing to the continued development of the farm.
Today, Skinners Farm remains a family-run working farm, with livestock and arable farming at its heart.
Farming the Land at Skinners Farm
Skinners Farm covers approximately 150 acres of Isle of Wight farmland. A further 200 acres are rented.
Part of the farm is used for rotational crops, which are harvested and can be used to help feed the cattle through the winter. Other areas are permanent pasture, providing grazing for the beef animals during spring, summer and autumn as well as providing hay that is sold.
This approach allows the Flux family to make productive use of their own land while producing much of the food needed for their cattle themselves.

Caring for the Cattle
Animal welfare is central to the way the Flux family farm.
The beef cattle are grown slowly and at their own rate, with the family placing importance on keeping the animals' lives as calm and stress-free as possible. The cattle graze outdoors whenever weather conditions allow, before being brought inside during winter into purpose-built barns that provide a warm, dry and comfortable environment.
The cattle are fed using a sustainable diet based mainly on food grown on the farm.
This connection between the land, the crops and the cattle is an important part of the Flux family approach to farming.

From the Fields to the Table

One of the advantages of being a family-run farm is knowing exactly where the food you produce comes from.
The Flux family's cattle are reared on the farm, using homegrown feed as an important part of their diet. This gives Skinners Farm a clear connection between the land being farmed and the beef eventually produced.
The farm's beef is available to buy directly from Skinners Farm, giving local customers the opportunity to enjoy locally reared beef from an Isle of Wight family farm.
A Modern Family Farm
While Skinners Farm has a strong farming heritage, the Flux family continue to look towards the future.
Modern farming is about balancing productivity with responsible care for animals, land and the environment. At Skinners Farm, the family continues to use the knowledge passed down through generations while adapting the farm to meet the needs of today.
This combination of family tradition, modern farming and local food production is what makes Skinners Farm unique.
