Here’s a challenge – Swim to the Isle of Wight

January 14, 2017

If you think the ferry fares are a bit excessive then here’s an alternative way to get to Skinners Farm – swim! The annual Solent Swim takes place on September 2nd 2017 and entries are open now. More details can be found at www.solentswim.co.uk.

Solent-Swim-2016-by-Ed-Garbett-44-300x203The swim takes place between Hurst Castle and Colwell Bay and the distance is 1.2 miles (the shortest route from the mainland to the Island) but because the Solent is so narrow at that point it means that the swim is particularly hazardous. The guys at West Wight Sports & Community Centre have it well organised and work closely with the lifeboat and other authorities to ensure that it’s not only safe but results in a real achievement for swimmers. In order to be able to take part there are certain pre-requisites and all then details can be found on their website www.solentswim.co.uk.
